The AI Price War Is Here, Piling Pressure on OpenAI and Anthropic (wsj.com)
memonkey 3 days ago [-]
I use Claude at work and burn tokens at a regular rate on a huge monorepo. If I'm using heavy skills, these burn up pretty quickly.

At home, I have a pretty simple project and pay $20 for Deepseek which has lasted me more than 2 weeks with pretty heavy usage.

I know my cost at work is something like $500-$1000+ per month, and I have found negligible difference with a $20 Deepseek usage based pricing.

If your Claude at work API costs are $1000, that will comfortably fit in a $100 Claude Max 5x subscription at home. You could probably get about $400 worth on the $20 subscription. Just FYI if you wanted to be able to have similar Claude usage at home.

But it sounds like the $20 DeepSeek is working for you, and it's good to try new models, so just sharing info if it helps!

Depends on the task. The dumber the model the more you need to cut up the task into smaller chunks.

Also, if you’re using deepseek it’s worth checking out opencode go ($10 for $60 of equivalent api pricing is a good deal).

To be fair, you're comparing different use cases
